TAIPEI, Taiwan - Hsinchu County, Jianshih Township on December 8 launched Taiwan's first Demand-Responsive Transportation System (DRTS) information media platform.
Hsinchu County, Jianshih Township Hall, K-BEST Technology, and Institute for Information Industry (III) collaborated to establish the DRTS operations platform.
It is the first integrated DRTS information media platform and hand signal powered smart traffic sign system in Taiwan. Passengers can make bus reservations through an online vehicle reservation platform system, and the management can gain an understanding of passenger demand in terms of the number of riders and times using this system.
In the past in Jianshih Township of Hsinchu County, when residents or passengers wanted to take public transportation vehicles, they were required to make reservations through a telephone booking system, and the township hall administrators would record the requests and dispatch services. However, through this new operation platform, residents can hail bus rides through a mobile APP.
The hand signal powered smart traffic signs are an improvement on the current smart traffic signs and are designed to overcome issues related to electrical supply and network communication difficulties in partially rural areas.
Through an independent hand power generation mode, the smart traffic sign system can be electrically started up as before. The newest IoT information technology – LoRa will be utilized for the information portion in order to avoid 3G/4G information dead zones. This technology is particularly suitable for mountainous rural areas, such as Jianshih Township.
