TAIPEI, Taiwan — Gartner Inc said, 4G LTE is globally developing, boosting the LTE chipsets to have high demand than expected. Big IC firms rolled out new products to penetrate the 4G market, including MediaTek will unveil its octa-core chipset next week, and it is said that Qualcomm will put into mass production three 64-bit 4G chipsets.
Broadcom announced earlier that it dropped out of the smartphone chipsets market, Mark Hung, Research VP at Gartner, said that Intel will be the major winner. He said that the economic outlook remains guardedly optimistic and in 2014 semiconductor growth at 6.7 percent, increased
from 5.4 percent in our 1Q14 update.
However, Mark Hung pointed out that some risk of sub-seasonal 3Q14 semi growth given extra hot foundry growth, and the next semiconductor slowdown in 2016 due to memory over-supply.
Mark Hung concluded this year's growth will be broad-based across all semiconductor devices but DRAM continues to lead.
