TAIPEI, Taiwan — Acer Founder and former Chairperson Stan Shih on Thursday initiated a cross-industry strategic alliance to assist the nation’s agriculture industry to utilize Internet of Things applications. Shih stated that the company’s Build Your Own Cloud (BYOC) cloud-computing platform could also enable farmers to store and analyze data.
Shih is expected the cross-industry strategic alliance will cover food, clothing, living, transportation, entertainment and medical care. “To cover every industry that invovled with human beings in the hope of integrating technologies.”
However, the company has been taking aggressive steps to expand in the IoT. In October, the alliance established a subsidiary in China for R&D and is also planning to set up a fund to invest in BYOC-related businesses.
Nevertheless, partners of the alliance as well as include the Global Bio-Industry Technology Development Foundation and Tons Lightology Inc.
