SAN JOSE, USA — Andrew Cowell, Senior Vice President of Mobile Power Products of Intersil, pointed out that 2016 will be the beginning year of aerobat and drone to go mainstream. Therefore, the company’s state-of-the-art Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor ISL29501 launced on the middle of October, 2015 in a bid to catch up with the business opportunities.
Andrew Cowell emphasized that the ISL29501 is a breakthrough and one-of-a-kind IC, which revolutionizes object detection and distance measurement. Features of the IC includes DSP calculates object proximity or distance up to two meters, ambient light rejection enables accurate distance measurement, fixed 4.5MHz modulation prevents interference with common gadgets such as TV remote control.
Most importantly, emitter DAC with programmable current optimizes measurement and power budget, single-shot mode for detection or distance, continuous mode improves distance accuracy and programmable distance zones define detection ranges.
However, Andrew Cowell stated that what makes the ISL29501 a low-power consumption IC is that it only detects 1 pixel of object.
Therefore, the IC is also suitable for home automation, as well as robotic cleaners either cliff or object detect for collision avoidance, and speed control when approaching wall or objects. Inventory management like vending machines that need real-time object count is fitted, along with game consoles, life and health appliances and smartphone’s autofocus.
