TAIPEI,Taiwan- Google is gradually developing Internet of Things services. On the strength of wearable devices, medical services, and automobile platforms, and on the basis of successful experience with Android One and Chromebooks, Taiwan’s technology companies will be the main supply partners for Google’s IoT services.
Google on Tuesday in Taiwan held “The Mobile First World,” Asia Pacific Media Conference. Google Executive Chairman, Eric E. Schmidt, and Google Global Vice President and Google Play Asia Pacific Superintendent, Chris Yerga, were both in attendance.
Taiwan General Manager Jian Li-feng at the conference said, “As long hardware integration and software integration are involved, Taiwan is the best overseas choice!”
Jian Li-feng also stated that because Taiwan has excellent supply chains, and because many Taiwanese companies are already participants in API agreements for Google’s diverse IoT domains, such as wearable devices, medical treatment, and automobile platforms, Taiwan is the first choice of location for Google’s overseas headquarters.
Jian Li-feng also pointed out that even South Korea does not have as many companies as Taiwan which are collaborating with Google. Participants include Android One, Nexus, Chromebook, and Project Ara and companies including Asus, Acer, HTC, and MediaTek are collaborating on a number of projects with excellent results.
Besides having excellent hardware, Taiwan’s content and software services are also gradually beginning to win favor with Google. Jian Li-feng revealed that recently Google is also collaborating with Taiwanese software developers and predicted that they will produce results in the near future.
Google Executive Chairman, Eric E. Schmidt pointed out in recent years there has been a global shift from Web First to Mobile First, and in the future it will shift again to become Mobile Only. Furthermore, while European and American companies are just beginning to discuss these two major trends, this tendency is already gradually taking shape in Asia.
