TAIPEI, Taiwan - Arm in collaboration with Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI) and STMicroelectronics announced the award recipients of the 2019 Arm Design Contest at Taipei Marriott Hotel. The top prize was awarded to Feng Chia University Department of Automatic Control Engineering’s “Wearable Smart Fitness Training Analysis System.”

The second place prize was awarded to the “Fantastic WTMH” team at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) for their “Cardiovascular Disease Rapid Screening Device,” and the third place prize was awarded to the “BEST Chocolate” team at Nan Kai University of Technology (NKUT) Department of Electronics Engineering for their “Multi-Function Badminton Serving Machine.”

The top three prize winners all received NT$300,000 Arm MDK-Pro development tools, and participating team members were given the opportunity to obtain resource support to transform their creations into commercial applications as well as opportunities for corporate internships at Arm Taiwan.

The teams in this year’s competition utilized STM32F7 development boards with Arm Cortex-M7 processors and WI-FI modules, and they made use of the computational performance and low power consumption of the Arm Cortex-M7 supplemented with Keil MDK software development tools to showcase more mature applications.

Arm Director of Application Engineering Zhang Wei-liang stated, “we hope to assist in the development of students' abilities to solve problems around them by providing a complete software and hardware development environment, and we anticipate that Arm’s leading global computing technology will be used in collaboration with young upstarts to create an ideal smart future.”

STMicroelectronics Asia-Pacific Regional Senior Product Marketing Manager Yang Zheng-lian explained, “this year’s creations delved deeply into a variety of domains such as fitness, medical treatment, agriculture, and industry; furthermore, we saw a number of creations with the potential to be transformed into commercial applications. With the continual progress of technological innovation and as the creativity and research and development strengths of young upstarts in Taiwan continue to advance, we believe that in the future forward-looking technological solutions will be produced by laboratories at a quicker rate and become key drivers in the promotion of industrial development.
