1977年，國巨以量產規模及成本控制優勢經營出精密電阻器的一方榮景，見證PC劃時代的風華。當後PC時代來臨，輕薄短小，瞬息萬變的消費性電子用品和通訊產品趨勢，讓正值成長期的國巨意識到必須具有全球化體質，從服務面切入客戶的供應鍊，才能預約國巨下一道成長曲線。

國巨透過三個策略：

(1)      一是整合被動元件零組件，1996和1997年將台灣第一大電容製造商智寶及台灣第一大電感製造商奇力新納入國巨集團，讓國巨成為世界三家唯一同時提供電阻、電容、電感被動元件的製造商之一。2005年投資台灣第三大積層陶瓷電容製造商華亞，進一步拉升國巨產能成為全球第三大MLCC供應商。
(2)      二為佈署全球通路，1994年透過購併新加坡電阻製造商ASJ取得東南亞市場，1996年深入歐洲，購併德國老牌高功能繞線電阻器製造商Vitrohm登陸歐陸，1999年併購北美經銷商Steller，佈局世界首要市場。
(3)      三為掌握核心技術，2000年順利購併飛利浦被動元件部門，納入國巨集團飛元（Phycomp）與飛磁（Ferroxcube）兩家公司。

統合效率、成本、通路、技術的全方位優勢，國巨完成全球化佈局。從產能看國巨的市場地位，國巨晶片電阻器（Chip-R）月產245億支高居世界第一，約佔世界市場三分之一強，積層陶瓷電容（MLCC）月產145億支排名世界第三，僅次於日本村田製作所（Murata）及太陽誘電(Taiyo Yuden)，而與TDK相當，磁性材料（Ferrites）每年13,000噸緊追日本TDK之後，列名世界第二。
